The National Retail Federation‘s annual survey of retail loss prevention professionals has just been released and offers a great deal of insight on national retail security issues such as inventory shrinkage, employee integrity, and organized retail crime that amounts to losses of $100 billion a year.
Just a few portions of the report are highlighted below, showcasing the ongoing challenges from COVID-19 as it pertains to retail security, organized crime ring, the changing risk and threat profiles affecting retailers, and finally the technologies (including AI) that retailers are employing to combat theft and organized crime rings.

“In many ways, these technological changes represent a shift toward more intelligence-based loss prevention practices, as many of the technologies provide more data, and richer data, about offenders and loss events at stores and other facilities. This intelligence is necessary for investigating crimes, but it is also necessary for detecting where problems are occurring and addressing those problems.”
